It doesn’t matter if it’s an iPhone picture or a professional session, looking good in pictures can make or break your day, right?   If you take a selfie that turns out awkward… ugh – you don’t want to get in front of the camera ever….. again!   But if the picture actually turns out ok, then you relax, smile and feel pretty dang good!  And that is such a better way to go throughout your day!

Here’s a few tips that I’ve learned through the years to help you nail it every time!!

Tip #1:  Twist a little

If you’ve ever worried about the camera adding 10 pounds, try this trick to lose 10 pounds instead. Stand a little sideways and twist your waist by turning your shoulders towards the camera.   This is a great angle to help anyone look slimmer and is sometimes referred to as a “Quick Tummy Tuck”.   Standing at just an angle will always be more appealing for any figure, rather than just standing straight on.

Tip #2:  Turtle neck

I promise that even the skinniest people can get what I call Awkward Neck Syndrome (ANS), I see it all the time! You know the kind, where you are laughing, or turning to the camera, and somehow the camera captures lots more neck than you really have? It’s the worst! I don’t know why, but every time I’m in front of a camera, I tend to pull my chin back without even realizing it and causing me severe cases of ANS!   Ugh!! Luckily, this is an easy fix. The next time you are in front of a camera, (heck grab your phone camera right now and try this), just push your neck and forehead towards the camera a little bit. Kind of like a turtle sticks their neck out. This feels awkward, but from the camera’s perspective it doesn’t look awkward, instead it lengthens and minimizes any chance of a double chin. Wha-lah!!

Tip #3:  Pull your hair forward around your neck

I’ve learned this tip from many years in Photo Shop (PS). Any time I had a client request that I use Photo Shop to help her look skinnier, I played around with all kinds of PS tools to help her look her best, and still like herself. One simple trick I discovered in PS was using a tool to push their hair in around their neck more.   It’s weird, but it really helps you to look much skinnier.   So now when I get that request during the shoot I will bring their hair forward as much as I can around their neck during the shoot so that they get the same result without using my mad ninja PS skills!

I had literally the “Best Weekend Ever”  shooting this amazing wedding in Portland Oregon recently!  Mallory was able to come with me for the weekend as my 2nd shooter and we got to hang out with the neatest people and shoot as much as our hearts desired of this beautiful couple and wedding!  The bride and her Mom were an absolute dream to work with, so we couldn’t have asked for a better wedding gig!  I loved that she chose a white theme with bright colorful flowers – the colors just popped and the bridesmaids looked amazing!  And the reception was perfection – the venue was cozy, the decorations were stunning and the people were the very best you can find!

I love shooting with Mallory, we each have different styles, and she brings a lot of fresh perspective and talent to every shoot.  Plus we get to talk photography shop together which may sound a little nerdy, but to me it is so fun!  Plus plus we went to downtown Portland and had the best shopping day and the last plus is that we found the cutest doughnut shop ever!

We are so excited to announce that this wedding has been featured by The Knot online wedding magazine!!

And…. it was also chosen as a winner for the 50 Weddings in 50 States!!

And… it will be featured in their 2016 print magazine!  I couldn’t be more thrilled and grateful to be a part of such a beautiful event!  Thank you Mary and Emily!!

Hey all,

I am excited about fall coming soon… excited about all the upcoming photo sessions, excited about Fall Break, and excited to be able to take my baby boys to the park.    Last night I attempted some park play after the sun was out of the sky, and it didn’t matter, we were all still dripping with sweat and it was 7 pm… ugh!  I wish I’d had my camera with me because Jack went down the big slide with a neighbor girl and face planted into the sand, when I ran to the rescue his face looked like a snickerdoodle cookie – completely covered in sand – eyes, nose, mouth it was like a sand mask!  I was laughing so hard, and wiping it all down, and the little boy never even cried.  Little boys are amazing that way – they just love the outdoors and are happy as long as they are outside…. oh, and if they are making lots of noise too… can’t forget that!

Here is a line up of my fall classes

Just had to post these few pictures of mustaches! These are such a fun fad right now, and I LOVE them!  They always make me laugh out loud!

This way cool family grew out all of their mustaches just in enough time for our photo shoot!

Phoenix Photographer

And this image was taken at the end of our summer edition of “Cake Wars”.  The cakes did not turn out, but to end the day in side splitting laughter while the kids put chocolate frosting mustaches on made the day worth it.

And I love these tee’s we made before summer ended.. thank you to my new addiction “Pinterest” for the inspiration!  My boys are afraid I am going to put every picture of them on my blog, can you tell?  Can’t figure out why..

Baby shoots are so much fun because you are around this beautiful little bundle, and yet they are a little more work because the little bundle’s needs must come first!  This little guy was no exception, he made his mark all over the white towels!  But looking at this shot, do you think he cared?   Neither did I….
